COMPANY PROFILE
– Greetings from the representative –
Protecting, nurturing, and passing on kimono culture.
Aiming to be a company that we can be proud of for the next generation.
Our company was founded in 1938 by my grandfather, Shoichi, who was born in Shiga Prefecture, and has been doing business mainly in Japanese kimono accessories. Although there have been many ups and downs, we have been able to continue our business to this day thanks to the founder, our predecessors, our seniors who supported the company, our customers, suppliers, processing partners, and the many people surrounding Kubo Shoji. I am grateful to all of them. The market for kimonos has shrunk significantly from its peak as the number of people wearing them has decreased. The once lively wholesale district of Muromachi, Kyoto, has undergone a major transformation with buildings, restaurants, and hotels now becoming more prominent. Although there are some pessimistic views about the future of the kimono industry, it is also true that the number of young people who like kimonos is increasing. When I started in the industry about 40 years ago, it was rare to see people walking around town wearing kimonos, but now you can see them more often, including rental kimonos. According to the survey, many people said they ``like kimonos'' and ``want to try them on.'' The kimono accessories we handle are essential items for wearing kimonos. Kimono is Japan's proud national costume, and I believe it will never go away. It has become very difficult to manufacture things these days, but with pride in preserving the culture of kimono, all of our employees will pool their wisdom and join forces to move forward together with everyone who supports Kubo Shoji.
